A successful diorama tells a story, is well-composed, animated, and well executed. I had built the Kubelwagen, DKW Motorcycle and the bikes with a theme in mind, a diorama with a non-combat storyline. The figures were a mix of heavily modified Tamiya bodies with Hornet heads, Custom Dioramics (bike riders) and were all painted using a mix of acrylic and oils. Even the heads on the German Shepherds were modified (one turned and one with the ears laid back). These figures represent my first attempt at figure painting. The fountain was a very early Verlinden effort, which was highly modified using charm bracelet pieces found at a craft store.

Jungle F4U-1 Corsair Overhaul Diorama

"You've got to be kidding" is usually the comment that this piece gets. Take one micro sized F4U Corsair from one of their carrier kits and go wild with the electron microscope. The plane features a complete cockpit with seat, instrument panel and stick, an engine with the appropriate cylinders, and scratch built landing gear. The prop was make from plastic strip and the palm trees were made from sprue and paper. He engine hoist was built from small gage wire and the ground personnel are photo etched. The pilot sports a Cincinnati Reds ball cap (with logo).

"This just aint right". It's all scratch built - figure, table, air compressor, chair, airbrush - except for the highly modified Hasegawa 1/700 scale Japanese "Val" dive bomber. The fact that I was building a 1/72 scale "Val" at the time I built this diorama was total coincidence.
