Ricky Rudd's 1987 Thunderbird Stock Car
Kit: Starter (heavily modified)
Scale: 1/43rd
After-Market: None
Year Built: 1993
Work Performed:
Starter kits come pretty much as a solid resin car, with a little interior details and no suspension or engine components. I hollowed out the resin body to scale thickness (paper thin), and proceeded to scratch build the engine, interior roll cage, chassis and floor pan, rear differential, wheels, brake calipers, vac-u-formed windows (kit ones were not clear), fluid reservoirs and oil cooler and pumps, and a whole lot of plumbing. The hood was shaped out of "former's aluminum". You can read about the construction and details in the Scale Auto Enthusiast Magazine, February issue 1994
1951 White 3000 Cabover Truck
Kit: Scratch built, with a few Revell parts for flavor
Scale: 1/48th
After-Market: None
Year Built: 1996
Work Performed:
The only parts from the Revell kit that I kept were the doors, front fascia and the front fender. Everything else was scratch built including the engine, frame, suspension, rear differential, wheels, (from molds), brakes, interior seat, dashboard, radiator, fuel cell and assorted plumbing. The wheels were engineered to turn in unison. You can read about the construction and details in the Scale Auto Enthusiast Magazine, June issue 1998
